He is an American actor writer, producer and well-known director of numerous horror films. He made his money mainly directing movies like the entire Scream Series, the famed A Nightmare on Elm Street and the widely acclaimed Vampire in Brooklyn just to mention a few.
Craven had a strict Baptist upbringing and earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology and English from Wheaton College. He later pursued a Masters Degree in Philosophy and Writing from John Hopkins University; he later taught English for some time as a humanities professor at Clarkson University. His first job in the film industry was as a sound editor for a post-production company in the City of New York. He has also made numerous X-rated films under pseudonyms and learned his directing craft from it. He directed his first feature film, The Last House on The Left in 1972.
