Samuel Alexander Mendes, who is better known as Sam Mendes, is a British film and stage director who has an estimated net worth of $30 million. Samuel Alexander Mendes was born on August 1, 1965 in Reading, Berkshire. He is the son of Valerie, who used to write books for children, and Jameson, a University professor. While his mother is an English Jew, Sam’s dad was from Trinidad. He has Portuguese and Italian blood. Sam’s grandfather was Alfred Hubert Mendes, an author from Trinidad. He showed early signs of success when he was studying at the Magdalen College School and Peterhouse in Cambridge. As a member of the Marlowe Society, Sam directed many plays. He even worked as the director in a Cyrano de Bergerac production where one of the cast members was Tom Hollander.

His first movie was American Beauty that starred Kevin Spacey in 1999. It was a huge commercial success and it was critically acclaimed too. The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture as well as the BAFTA Award and the Golden Globe Award. Since then, he has directed many appreciated movies and plays while he has been nominated a lot of times. In 2010, he was contracted to direct the James Bond movie Skyfall, which was released on the 50th anniversary of the franchise.

Sam was married to Kate Winslet. However the couple divorced in 2010.
