Paul Haggis is a Canadian director, screenwriter, and producer who has an estimated net worth of $60 million. Born Paul Edward Haggis on March 10, 1953 in London, Ontario, Canada, he attended St. Thomas More Elementary School then H. B. Beal Secondary School, after he got inspired by Alfred Hitchcock and Jean-Luc Godard. He later pursued cinematography at Fanshawe College. He began his career in the entertainment industry as a writer when he moved to Los Angeles in 1975.

Haggis started his career in writing by working with television programs, such as The Love Boat, One Day at a Time, Diff'rent Strokes, and The Facts of Life (where he also gained his first credit as a producer). During the 80s and 90s, he wrote for television series, including thirtysomething, The Tracey Ullman Show, FM, Due South, L.A. Law, and EZ Streets. He created the television series Due South (1994–1999) and co-created Walker, Texas Ranger (1993–2001). He is a two-time Emmy Award winner and seven-time Gemini Award winner.

In 2004, Paul moved into film writing and he became notable for his works on Million Dollar Baby and Crash, which both won the Best Picture awards in Oscars. He is a co-writer the war film Flags of Our Fathers (2006) and the James Bond films Casino Royale(2006) and Quantum of Solace (2008).
