Dickey Betts was born in Florida. His musical family made him listen to bluegrass, Western Swing and country Music as he was growing up. At 5 years, he could play ukulele and moved to banjo, mandolin and guitar as he grew up. At the age of 16, he started playing guitar in a series of Florida rock bands. Together with Berry Oakley, they formed the Second coming in 1967. Early in his music career, he partnered with Duane Allman but was later forced to be a solo guitarist after the death of Duane in 1971. In 1996, he won a Grammy Award for best Rock performance for his instrumental 'Jessica'. Dickey Betts is regarded as one of the best guitar players of all time.
