David Paich started his music career as a session musician playing backup instrumentals for singer-songwriters. He, along with drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate, guitarist Steve Lukather, and keyboardist Steve Porcaro, they had worked with many popular recording artists during the 70s, including Steely Dan, Sonny and Cher, and Seals and Crofts.

He and his fellow session musicians gained national attention in 1976 when "Silk Degrees" was released. An album which he worked on with world-famous recording artist Boz Scaggs. The album shot to #1 around the world with 4 hit singles - 3 of which he co-wrote: "Lowdown, "What Can I Say", and "Lido Shuffle."

Then in 1977, he and Jeff Porcaro gathered their Silk Degrees teammates up and formed their own band called Toto. After signing a recording contract with Columbia Records, they released their first album self titled "Toto" in 1978. With Toto alone, David Paich has released 17 albums and sold over 30 million records worldwide.
