Damian was born near St John’s Wood in London to J. Watcyn Lewis and Charlotte Mary. He studied in the Ashdown House School in East Sussex. He dreamt of becoming an actor at the age of sixteen and graduated in 1993 from the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Damian initially started as a stage actor and is famous for many plays such as “Little Eyolf” where he played the character of Borgheim and also the part of Posthumous in the Shakespearean play “Cymbeline”.
Before joining films, Damian worked as a telemarketer in a company which specialized in selling car alarms. He got his first break was while playing Laertes with Ralph Fiennes. His depiction was noticed by Steven Spielberg who immediately cast him in the “Band of Brothers”, a TV miniseries. After this, Damian appeared in many TV shows such as the Life, The Forsyte Saga and Jeffery Archer the Truth.
Damian has won the Best Actor Golden Globe and a Satellite Award for the miniseries Band of Brothers. He is currently playing Sergeant Nicholas Brody in the TV series “Homeland” for which he has won an Emmy and the Golden Globe Award.
Damian Lewis married actress Helen McCrory on 4th July 2007. They have two children - a girl, Manon, and a boy, Gulliver. Lewis is associated with many charitable organizations.
