Chris Carter is an American television and film producer, director and writer who has an estimated net worth of $40 million. He graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a degree in journalism. Right after graduation, he started working for Surfing Magazine and stayed there for thirteen years before beginning his television career working on television films for Walt Disney Studios.

Carter rose to fame in the early 1990s through the science fiction-supernatural television series The X-Files on Fox network. He had three other series including doomsday-themed series Millennium, Harsh Realm, and The Lone Gunmen, a spin-off of The X-Files. He also wrote for The X-Files’ cinematic spin-off, The X-Files and the follow-up The X-Files: I Want to Believe. His most recent television series is The After with The Amazon Studios.
