Reynolds, his sister and his mother later reunited with the father at Fort Leonard Wood and they stayed at Fort Leonard Wood for two years. He later moved to Florida where he lived at Riviera Beach.
He studied at Palm Beach high School where he was named in All Southern and First Team All state as a fullback. This made him receive several scholarship offers. He then attended Florida State University upon graduating from Palm Beach high school. He hoped to be a professional footballer but was injured in the first game, his injury was worsened by a car accident. In 1956, he took part in a play referred to as “Outward Bound” and he won Florida State Drama award.
