Boyd Tinsley is an American violinist and mandolinist who has an estimated net worth of $7o million. He was born Boyd Calvin Tinsley on May 16, 1964 in Charlottesville, Virginia. While still in University, Tinsley regularly participated in musical "jam sessions" and even formed a band named the Boyd Tinsley Trio, but it only lasted a few years. He also played with the Down Boy Down group. In 1991, he was offered the opportunity to play the violin on the song "Tripping Billies" by Dave Matthews and he eventually joined his band. While he was part of the band, he has collaborated in writing songs, harmonizing, and singing backing vocals. His genres include classical music, alternative rock and rock, he can play a wide array of instruments like the violin, viola, mandolin, electric violin and the guitar.

However, despite his musical inclination, Matthews was accused of sexual misconduct by a former bandmate. By 2018, the band officially announced that he is no longer a member.
