Bob Barker is one of the world’s most famous American TV show hosts and avid animal activist who after passing away in 2023, had a net worth of $0.

This resulted from a promise Barker made to die penniless after giving away his $70 million fortune to animal charities and activist groups.

Barker was famously known for being the host of the iconic game show The Price Is Right, which received several Daytime Emmy Awards.

Hosting The Price is Right for 35 years from 1972 to 2007, Barker earned more than $100 million and was the show’s longest-running host.

Barker, who had already garnered impressive fame from his time on a different game show, Truth or Consequences from 1956 to 1974, has made appearances with countless other celebrities. Such names include Adam Sandler, Larry King, and Ellen DeGeneres.

Bob Barker Net Worth

Thanks to his warm personality and genuine interactions with contestants, Barker amassed a huge following, with more than 3.5 million viewers tuning in to watch the show that has aired for 52 seasons.

He made a fortune in the process, earning $10 million annually during his last decade on the show, amassing more than $100 million from The Price is Right in only 10 years.

The salary was justified through the countless Daytime Emmy Awards the show received during his time as host, with Barker himself taking home 18 Emmy Awards.

Besides his iconic hosting on game shows, Barker has branched out to different areas of entertainment, landing an unforgettable cameo in the 1996 comedy, Happy Gilmore, alongside Adam Sandler. Moreover, he made multiple appearances on other game and talk shows, including Match Game, Larry King Live, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Bob Barker Animal Activism and Charity Donations

Despite having an estimated net worth of $70 million at the height of his career, this figure could have been significantly higher had it not been for the tens of millions he gave away to countless animal shelters and activist groups over the years.

Barker donated $2.5 million to the animal activist group PETA, which helped the organization open up its West Coast headquarters in 2012, named the Bob Barker Building.

He also donated $250,000 to several different groups, including Save the Chimps.

One of Barker’s more notable donations is the $5 million he donated to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, which invested the money into a ship named after the show host and used in their anti-whaling campaigns.

In 2013, he played a key role in helping transport three elephants from the Toronto Zoo to a U.S.-based sanctuary through his $1 million donation.

Bob Barker DJ&T Foundation

Perhaps Bob Barker’s biggest contribution to charity in addition to donating his entire fortune after his death, is the foundation he started which set him back a whopping $30 million.

The foundation DJ&T, a combination of his late wife’s name, Dorothy Jo, and his mother Matilda’s nickname, Tilly, helped finance veterinary clinics that offered affordable spaying and neutering services.

Barker, who spent years concluding The Price is Right with his famous outro, “Please remember to have your pets spayed or neutered” was adamant about bringing down animal euthanasia rates in pounds and shelters.
