He is an Anglican, and his Christian faith has been described as the "backbone" of his life. He was only 23 years old when he became the youngest person to ever reach the summit of Mount Everest. He did a deodorant commercial out on an adventure, and it launched his media career, much like his successful climb to the summit. It quickly became the campaign of the week, drawing attention to the young explorer. His outdoor adventures became the subject of documentaries, and he was eventually approached by Discovery Channel to star in a series called Man vs. Wild.
