Sammy Winward is an English actress, singer, and model best known for playing Katie Macey on the ITV1 soap opera Emmerdale.

She was born Samantha Kate Winward on October 12, 1985 in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. She attended Turton High School Media Arts College in Bromley Cross, South Turton. She was engaged to footballer David Dunn, with whom she had a daughter, Mia, on June 12, 2005 in Edgworth, Lancashire. The two split in September of the same year but remain friends.

Sammy began her career when she appeared in Soapstar Superstar, a celebrity talent show on ITV, in January 2006. In March of that year, she appeared on the Orange Playlist. She claimed on the show that she was training to be a ballerina before she was chosen by her agent, Ruth Young, to attend the audition of Emmerdale. The television series has won 22 awards and 47 nominations. She was nominated at the National Television Award as Most Popular Newcomer for her role.

Prior to that, Winward appeared in the annual BBC telethon Children in Need, a television series started in 1980 and which is dedicated to BBC’s own charity for children. Other appearances on television included Xpose, Loose Women and This Morning.

Sammy Winward was voted number 73 on FHM’s 2006 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll. She also appeared with her family in 2007 on All Star Family Fortunes and lost 381-30 to Kyran Bracken.
