Katie Holmes became a TV star as Josephine "Joey" Potter on the coming-of-age TV series Dawson's Creek (1998-2003, starring James Van Der Beek). She parlayed her TV fame into movie roles, graduating from schoolgirl roles in movies like The Ice Storm (1997, with Tobey Maguire) and Wonder Boys (2000, with Michael Douglas), to leading parts in Pieces of April (2003, with Patricia Clarkson and First Daughter (2004, with Michael Keaton). Her exposure in the press exploded in 2005. She appeared in the Hollywood blockbuster Batman Begins (with Christian Bale) as well as the well-received independent comedy Thank You for Smoking (2005), and she became engaged to actor Tom Cruise after a much-publicized courtship and a proposal from Cruise at the Eiffel Tower. Since their wedding in Italy on 18 November 2006, Holmes became a tabloid favorite as Mrs. Cruise and the mother of their daughter, Suri (born 18 April 2006). On June 29, 2012 after five years of marriage,  Holmes and Cruise announced their divorce. According to TMZ, Katie is asking for a "suitable amount" of child support.  Katie also asks for a division of property in her divorce documents, although the couple signed a prenup that is based on California law.
