VelJohnson is best known for his role as Carl Winslow in the Family Matters sitcom. He was the only cast member to have appeared on every single episode of the show. He is also known to portray the roles of police officers in films and television. He was LAPD Sgt. Al Powell in the film Die Hard (1988) and its sequel Die Hard 2 (1990).

Reginald VelJohnson began his professional acting career in the early 80s. He appeared in supporting roles in films, as well as guest starring roles on television. His early projects included Wolfen, Ghostbusters, The Equalizer, Crocodile Dundee, 227, Perfect Strangers and Turner & Hooch. He became a household name in 1989 with his role as Carl Winslow on Family Matters, which he was a part of until 1998.

VelJohnson also appeared in several films such as Tales from the Crypt, Dream On and Diagnosis Murder. He has worked on screen and television in the 2000s with projects like The Hughleys, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, That’s So Raven, Ghost Whisperer and Chuck.
