Oscar Isaac was born as Oscar Isaac Hernández. His Cuban father named Oscar Gonzalo Hernández-Cano is a pulmonologist. His mother, Maria, is from Guatemala. His maternal grandfather was French.

Oscar grew up in Miami, Florida with a passion for acting and music. He staged plays with his sister in their backyard. Before becoming an actor, Oscar sang the vocals and played the lead guitar for his band called the Blinking Underdogs. In 2005, he graduated from Julliard school. Joseph in the film The Nativity Story was his first major film role. He also played roles in the Ché Guevara biography Che: Part One (2008) and All About the Benjamins (2002).

Aside from his movie appearances, Oscar also appeared in Law & Order: Criminal Intent in 2001. He also played a part in Agora(2009) with Rachel Weisz and Body of Lies (2008) with Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio. The setting of his movie Balibo (2009) was amid the Indonesian invasion of East Timor that happened in 1975. Last 2013, Oscar starred in the folk music-themed drama of the Coen Brothers called Inside Llewyn Davis. He was also featured in other great projects like Ex Machina (2015), Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015) and A Most Violent Year (2014). He was a winner of the Golden Globe for the HBO miniseries Show Me a Hero (2015).
