Jeffrey Matthew Settle was born on September 17, 1969 in Hickory, North Carolina. He is best known for his roles as Captain Ronald Speirs on the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, as well as Rufus Humphrey, the father of Dan and Jenny, played by Penn Badgley and Taylor Momsen, on Gossip Girl.

Settle started as a stage actor and he made his Broadway debut in a strictly limited engagement in Chicago: The Musical. He played the role of Billy Flynn from April 19 through June 13, 2010. She also appeared as a guest on an episode of Law and Order SVU in Season 7. He played the part of John in the film Beneath.

Matthew Settle was nominated for a teen choice award for his role in Gossip Girl. He also shares a Western Heritage award with Steven Spielberg and the rest of the cast and crew of Into the West, a TNT Emmy award-winning mini-series.
