He was born on September 17, 1967 in New York City, New York, USA.  He is best known for his lead role as NYPD Detective J.C. Williams on the Fox police dram New York Undercover, and as Yul Brenner in Cool Runnings. He also played the role of former FBI Special Agent Bill Harken on the Syfy drama series Alphas, and as Jim Hudson in Revolution.

With his work on New York Undercover, Yoba earned three consecutive NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series in 1996, 1997 and 1998. He is also an accomplished singer and actor. He had a lead role in His Woman His Wife. He appeared in films like Cool Runnings and Criminal, played the role of Fisher in Where I Live, and had the role of Ice, a bounty hunter whose real love is party planning, on the FOX television series Arrested Development. Recently, he has played Brock Harris on the UPN sitcom Girlfriends.
