New Zealand-born actor Karl Urban is best known for portraying the role of Eomer in the second and third installment of The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson. He has an estimated net worth of $80 million. He is also known for playing Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in Star Trek and Star Trek into Darkness, Caesar in Xena: Warrior Princess, Vaako in The Chronicles of Riddick, and Judge Dredd in the 2012 film Dredd. He was an acclaimed actor in the New Zealand films The Prince of Milk and Out of the Blue.

Karl was born Karl-Heinz Urban on June 7, 1972 in Wellington, New Zealand to a German immigrant father who owned a leather goods store and a mother who once worked for film facilities in Wellington. He attended St. Mark’s Church School where he showed his early love for performance. At the age of eight, he had his first acting role in a television series Pioneer Woman. However, he did not act again until after high school. He went to Wellington College (1986-1990) and to Victoria University of Wellington for a year in the Bachelor of Arts program. While he was preparing for Victoria, he was offered a role in the soap opera Shortland Street (1992). He left because he pursued his acting career. Over the next few years, he appeared in several TV commercials and various theatre roles in Wellington. He then moved to Auckland and was offered many guest roles in local shows such as Shark in the Park (1989). He also appeared in the movie Chunuk Bair (1992). It was once titled Chunuck Bay. He had a starring guest role in White Fang (1993).

Karl Urban married Natalie Wihongi, his makeup artist in The Privateers, in September 2004. They have two son, Hunter (November 2000) and Indiana or Indy (January 2005). He serves as a celebrity ambassador for KidsCan, a charity that supports over 16,000 disadvantaged children in New Zealand.
