David Keith McCallum, Jr. was born on September 19, 1933 in Glasgow, Scotland. He is an alumnus of Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. From 1956 through 1967, he was married to Jill Ireland. The couple had three sons together named Val, Paul and Jason. Since 1967, he has been married to Katherine Carpenter with whom he has a daughter named Sophie, and son named Peter. They currently live in New York.

In 1951, he became a part of Glyndebourne Opera Company where he served as assistant stage manager. As an actor, McCallum has appeared on projects like Violent Playground, Robbery Under Arms, A Night To Remember, Billy Bud, Freud The Secret Passion, The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Great Escape, Colditz, NCIS, Kidnapped, Run For Your Wife, Mother Love,  and The Outer Limits. He also narrated the documentaries titled Titanic: The Legend Lives On, and Titanic: Death of a Dream which were aired on A&E Television Networks.
