At such an early age, David Hyde Pierce has develop a deep love for music which lead him study Classical Piano at Yale University. Soon, he got bored with music so he ended up graduating with a degree in English and Theatre Arts. After graduation, he moved to New York and he started his acting career when he played the role of Laertes in the Broadway production titled Hamlet and Beyond Therapy. He also joined the film industry and he became famous for his voice acting talent.

After long years of speculation, David Hyde Pierce confirmed that he is gay and he is having an affair with the TV producer, writer and director Brian Hargrove. In October 2008, the couple got married just a few days before the law on banning same sex marriage was approved.
