American puppeteer Caroll Spinney is best recognized for his work playing Oscar The Grouch and Big Bird on Sesame Street. He is also sometimes referred to as Ed Spinney or Carroll Spinney.

Caroll Edwin Spinney was born on December 26, 1933 in Waltham, Massachusetts, USA. He is married to Debra Spinney. He has three children and four grandchildren. Since 1955, Spinney has been active in the entertainment and showbiz industry. He debuted with Rascal Rabbit, which was performed in Las Vegas Nevada. In 1958, he moved to Boston to join the Judy and Goggle Show. 

Throughout his career, he has been a four-time Daytime Emmy Award recipient, and a two-time winner of a Grammy award. He also received the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2006 Daytime Emmy Awards.
