Alan Arkin is an American actor, director, musician and singer who has an estimated net worth of $15 million. Born Alan Wolf Arkin on March 26, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, USA, the family moved to Los Angeles when he was 11. He was fond of music and acting from an early age. At ten, he took various acting classes and became a scholarship student at different drama academies.

Arkin attended Los Angeles City College and Bennington College. He formed the folk music group The Tarriers with two of his friends, in which he sang and played the guitar. He was the co-composer of the group’s 1956 hit song The Banana Boat Song, which reached #4 on the Billboard magazine chart.

Alan Arkin struggled as a young actor and played bit parts on television and on stage. His first big screen appearance was in 1957 as a lead singer with The Tarriers in Calypso Heat Wave. Since then, he has gone to appear in television, film and on-stage.

Arkin is best noted for his starring roles in the films Wait Until Dark; The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming; The Heart is a Lonely Hunter; Catch-22; The In-Laws; Edward  Scissorhands; Glengarry Glen Ross; Thirteen Conversations About One Thing; Little Miss Sunshine; and Argo. With the last two films, he was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor, winning for the former. He is also one of only six actors to have been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his first screen appearance, in The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming in 1966.
