Tomas Berdych started playing tennis when he was five years old. At age 8, he received a title in a competition and represented the Czech Republic in Pardubice. His skills were further honed through continuous training with some of the best coaches in the country.
He turned pro in 2002. As a junior, he placed sixth in the world ranking in 2003. Berdych achieved his first ATP title during the US Open and defeated Tomas Behrend. In 2005, he won the Paris Masters against Ivan Ljubicic.
