Radamel Falcao García Zárate was born on February 10, 1986 in Santa Marta, Colombia. In the past, Zarate has played for several football teams such as River Plate, Lanceros Boyaca, Porto, Atletico Madrid, and since 2013, he began playing for the AS Monaco. He was influential in helping Atletico Madrid on its 12 win streak in a single season of the Europa League. At the 2013 Copa del Rey Final, he helped the team overcome Real Madrid, putting an end to the latter's 14-year unbeaten streak.

In 2011, he became a recipient of the Portuguese Golden Ball award, which made him the first Colombian to have received such award. He has also won sportsman of the year from GQ Spain, as well as the 2012 Globe Best Footballer. He ranked sixth on The Guardian's list of The 100 best footballers in the world.
