Iván Córdoba started his career in 1993 when he joined the Columbian Serie B's Deportivo Rionegro. Three years later, he moved to the Atletico Nacional due to his subsequent performances with Rionegro.

During the height of his career, he became well-known while with the San Lorenzo in 1998. But his short stint with the team made him transfer to Italian side, Internazionale a year later. Cordoba was Inter's central defence for years which molded his partnership with Marco Materazzi.
