Djibril Cisse was born on August 12, 1981, in Arles, France. Of Ivorian ancestry, Cisse is known for his impressive acceleration and speed. He is married to Jude Littler with whom he has three children named Prince Kobe, Marley Jackson and Cassius Clay. He has another child, named Ilona, from his previous relationship while his wife named Liam. Recently, the couple was rumored to be getting a divorce.

In 1989, Cisse started his professional football career at AC Arles at age eight. After spending seven years with the club, he moved to Nîmes Olympique then Auxerre where he joined the club's youth system for two years. He played for Auxerre for six seasons before moving to a club which was based in  Merseyside. Djibril Cisse signed to Swiss-tier side Yverdon for an undisclosed fee.
