Diego Milito started his career in 1999 when he joined the Argentine first division team Racing Club. He won the Apertura tournament in 2001.
He moved to Genoa in 2004 as part of the Italian second division club. Milito was punished for an alleged match-fixing during the final match in the 2004-2005 season which resulted of his transfer at Serie C1 and forced to leave the team.
As he went to Real Zaragoza in 2005, Milito has been one of the top scorers for the team. A huge amount of buy-out clause which his contract extended in 2007 and returned to Genoa the next season.
With his comeback with the team, he finished the season with 24 goals from the 31 league appearance. Milito transferred to Inter Milan from 2009 to 2014. After four years stint with the team, he went back to his first club, Racing Club.
