Alan Shearer has an estimated net worth of $52.5 million. Shearer combines work as a television football pundit for the BBC and Al-Jazeera with his role as an ambassador for Umbro, continuing an association that dates from when he signed a 15-year endorsement deal with the sports firm aged 27. The deal is worth £1.33m a year. Shearer moved from enjoying the Toon Army's adulation to bantering on the Match of the Day sofa, so that five years after his retirement as a player for Newcastle United, his wealth continues to grow. Shearer played for Southampton, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and for the England national team.

A brief taste of management came during the final eight games of the season that culminated in Newcastle's relegation in May 2009. A £1.8m bonus escaped his clutches when he failed to keep the side in the Premier League but the episode did little to tarnish the image of a striker who scored 206 goals in 404 appearances for Newcastle before his retirement as a player in 2006. For many years, Shearer commanded a £2m-plus salary. His company Shearer Promotions showed much larger assets of £1.7m in 2009. Since his retirement from playing he has devoted considerable time to charity. He is an ambassador with the NSPCC and a patron of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which has raised more than £2.5m in the past three years. He also supports the Alan Shearer Centre in Newcastle, which helps children in need and their families.
