Tony Carter began his career when he played for Mandarin High School's football team as a cornerback, wide receiver, and quarterback. He earned the third-team all state honors.
He decided to attend Florida State University in college, and was redshirted in 2004. During the span of his stint with the Seminoles, Carter was named as first team and second team All-Atlantic Coast Conference in 2005 and 2006.
Carter was undrafted during the NFL selection in 2009 and signed up with the Denver Broncos. He finished the season with three tackles with a defended pass. After he left the team, he joined the New England Patriots then Minnesota Vikings that lasted for one season each. In 2012, he returned to the Broncos for the second time.
