Shane Patrick-Henry Vereen was born on March 2, 1989 in Valencia, California. After attending Valencia High School, Vereen studied at the University of California, Berkeley where he played at the college level. In 2010, he completed his degree in Media Studies in just three and a half years. Eventually, he decided to forgo his senior season at the university and declared himself eligible for drafting. Since 2011, he has played for the New England Patriots. In August 2011, he signed a four-year contract with the Patriots.
