American football quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League, Michael Dwayne Vick, has an estimated net worth of $15 million.
An outstanding athlete, he was the first pick of the NFL draft in 2001 by the Atlanta Falcons; it was the first time an African American quarterback was the first overall pick. Vick played sparingly in 2001, but went to the Pro Bowl in 2002, 2004 and 2005. Vick's strong arm, foot speed, and dashing improvisational skills made him a crowd favorite and one of the NFL's most popular players. He signed a ten-year contract with the Falcons in 2004, worth $130 million in salary and bonus money.
Vick's career took a dive in 2007 after police investigating a dogfighting ring found 30 dogs and evidence of dogfights at a Virginia home owned by Vick. Vick was sentenced to 23 months in jail in December of 2007 for financing a dog-fighting operation and for helping to kill underachieving pit bulls. He served 2 years in jail and returned to the NFL in late 2009. He signed to play with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2009 season, and by the end of 2009 he had signed on to a cable television series, The Michael Vick Project.
In August 2011, Vick signed a 6 year $100 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. This new contract includes $40 million in guaranteed cash and works out to an annual salary of $16.5 million. Vick is now the third athlete, joining Derek Jeter and Shaquille O’Neal, in the history of professional sports to sign more than $100 million+ contract. Vick’s original $130 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons was negated after his legal troubles. In 2012, Michael Vick was estimated to be worth $16 million.
