Kyle Long began his career when he played for the St. Anne's-Belfield School's football team. Instead of pursuing a career with the Chicago White Sox, he attended Florida State University. Eventually, he transferred to the Saddleback College and returned to play for the school’s football team.

Before hitting the field, he attended the rookie minicamp for two days but he skipped it due to the extensive rule for prohibiting rookies from working out until they graduated from college. He returned a month later.

With a fresh start with the Bears, Long was named Pro Football Focus' All-Rookie Team, and NFL.com's All-Rookie Team. He gained a spot for the 2014 Pro Bowl.

Kyle Howard Long was born on December 5, 1988 in Ivy, Virginia.
