Born James Edward Kelly on February 14, 1960 in East Brady, Pennsylvania, USA. He attended the East Brady High School, where he was a standout football player. He went to the University of Miami through a football scholarship, where he had an important role in helping build the university into one of the nation’s premier collegiate football programs. He was inducted into the University of Miami Hall of Fame in 1992.

Kelly began his professional football career when he was picked by the Buffalo Bills during the 1983 National Football League (NFL) Draft. Afterwards, he signed with the Houston Gamblers and made several league records. When the team broke down, he went to the New Jersey General, which folded in 1986.

On the same year, Jim Kelly returned to Buffalo Bills and continued to make history, leading the team to five championships between 1989 and 1995. He also holds the league record for most yards gained in one game. He made it to the Pro Bowl four times, the second player in history to pull off the number, after Joe Montana.

Kelly ran a camp for 8-18 year olds at the Buffalo Bill facilities from 1988. He retired in 1996 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002. After football, he became involved in several businesses, such as Hall of Fame Life Promotions. The company is dedicated to his son, Hunter James Kelly, who died from Krabbe Disease at the age of eight.
