Born on October 13, 1962 in Crawford, Mississippi, Rice was a student at Mississippi Valley State University before he was drafted into NFL. He debuted into NFL in 1985 when he was selected by San Francisco 49ers as its 16th overall pick in the first round of the 1985 NFL Draft. From 1985 through 2000, Rice played with the 49ers. However, he left the team in 2001 and signed with the Oakland Raiders when Terrell Owens signed with the 49ers.

Before the 2004 season started, he became a part of deal with the Seattle Seahawks. Towards the end of the season, Rice opted to sign a one-year deal with Denver Broncos, but later on, he decided to retire instead of getting into the bottom of the team's chart.

In 2006, the management of 49ers announced that Rice is getting a one-year deal from them which was worth $1,985,806.49. The figures actually represents something for Rice. It was in 1985 when he was drafted into NFL, his shirt is #80, it was in 2006 when he retired, 49 for San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, the figure was just ceremonial as Rice didn't receive the any amount from the franchise.

In 2006, Jerry Rice was actually inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Jerry Rice was married to Jacqueline Bernice Mitchell. Their divorce was granted in 2009. The couple has three children together, Jaqui (b. 1987), Jerry Jr. (b.1991) and Jada (b.1996).
