Richard Hamilton is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He was born Richard Clay Hamilton on February 14, 1978 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, USA. He attended the University of Connecticut from 1996 to 1999, where he also played college basketball. During his last year, he was named the 1999 NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after the team’s run to the year’s national title.

Hamilton began his professional basketball career as the 7th overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft and played for the Washington Wizards for his first three seasons in the league. Along with Hubert Davis and Bobby Simmons, he was traded to the Detroit Pistons for Jerry Stockhouse, Brian Cardinal and Ratko Varda. Since then, he became one of the top shooting guards in the NBA and was the leading scorer on the Pistons 2004 NBA Championship team. He was waived by the Pistons on December 12, 2011.

Two days after, he was cleared of the waiver and he quickly signed a three year contract worth $15 million with the Chicago Bulls. He averaged 11.6 points, 3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game during his first season with the team. He was waived by the Bulls on July 10, 2013.
