Known as Joe D, Joe Dumars is a retired professional basketball player who served as the president of basketball operations of the Detroit Pistons from 2000 through 2014. In 2006, Joe Dumars was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Dumars joined the NBA when he was selected as the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 1985 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. He attended the McNeese State University before he declared for the NBA Draft. Before his retirement in 2000, he became the first ever recipient of the NBA Sportsmanship Award which was named the "Joe Dumars Trophy". In March 2000, his #4 jersey was officially retired by the Pistons. Joe Dumars was part of the US Men's national basketball team which competed in the 1994 FIBA World Championship. The team was a gold medalist when the championship ended. Before the start of the 2000-2001 season, Joe Dumars started working as the President of the Basketball Operations of the Detroit Pistons.
