American professional basketball player Eddie Jones was born on October 20, 1971 in Pompano Beach, Florida, USA. He played college basketball at Temple University, and was the 1993-94 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year.

Jones began his professional basketball career when he was drafted as the 10th overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1994 NBA Draft. During his rookie season, he averaged 14.0 points and 2.05 steals per game. He played a total of 64 games where he was a starter in 58 games. He placed 4th in the NBA Rookie of the Year ballot and was on the 1994-95 NBA All-Rookie First Team.

On March 10, 1999, Eddie Jones, along with Elden Campbell, was traded to the Charlotte Hornets for Glen Rice, J. R. Reid and B. J. Armstrong. During the 1999-2000 campaign, he averaged 20.1 points, 2.7 steals, 4.2 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game. However, he was traded with Anthony Mason to the Miami Heat for Jamal Mashburn and PJ Brown. He averaged 18.5 points per game during the 2002-2003 season which is considered his best at Miami.

Jones became an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2006-07 season. He signed a two-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks on August 3, 2007. He was traded to the Indiana Pacers on October 10, 2008 but was subsequently released after six days to free up cap room. During his career, he was a three-time NBA All-Star.
