After playing his third season with the Marquette University, Doc Rivers was drafted out by the Atlanta Hawks when he was selected as its 31st overall pick in the 2nd round of the 1983 NBA Draft. As a professional basketball player, he has played with the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs. He ended his basketball career as a bench player for the Spurs.
