Danilo Gallinari played professional basketball in 2004 for Italian team, Casalpusterlengo. After a year, he was acquired by the Armani Jeans Milano. Eventually, he was sent to the Edimes Pavia. He averaged 14.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 0.8 assists appeared in 17 games with the team.

He recalled by Olimpia Milano in 2006 and played for the team. Gallinari won the 2007 Italian All Star Game 3-point shootout contest. After his two seasons with the team, he announced his eligibility for the NBA Draft.

Gallinari was selected as the first round, 6th overall pick by the New York Knicks in the 2008 NBA Draft. In 2011, he was traded to Denver Nuggets and returned to play with Italy's Emporio Armani Milan during the 2011 NBA lockout.
