About Chris Andersen

Chris Andersen is an American professional basketball player with an estimated net worth of $10 million. He has earned his net worth for playing in the center position for the Miami Heat in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Christopher Claus Andersen was born on July 7, 1978 in Long Beach, California. He played basketball while in high school so he could earn a college scholarship. However, he did not make it to the University of Houston due to his grades. Instead, he went to Blinn College in Brenham and played for the Blinn Buccaneers. He led the National Junior College Athletic Association players in blocks which in turn earned him a spot in the NBA. Up to date, he is the only Blinn student to ever play in the NBA.

Andersen began his professional career with the Jiangsu Nangan Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Association since he was undrafted in the 1999 NBA Draft. He spent some time in the NBA Development League (NBADL) and was the first overall pick by the Fayetteville Patriots in the 2001 draft.

Nicknamed the “Birdman”, he was called up by the Denver Nuggets and signed with the team on November 21, 2001. He became a free agent in 2004 and signed with the New Orleans Hornets for a four-year, $14 million contract. He stayed with the team until 2006 when he was disqualified from the NBA after he failed a mandatory drug test.

Chris Andersen was released by the Hornets during the 2007-08 season and returned to the Nuggets on July 24, 2008 with a $998, 398 worth of contract for one season. He was waived by the team in 2012 and signed a 10-day contract with the Heat on January 20, 2013 and currently plays for the team.
