Matt Serra is a retired American mixed martial artist.

Matt Serra began his journey towards his career as a mixed martial artist when he honed his skills in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Then, in 1999, he landed first place at the Brazilian Pan American games and third placer in the brown belt division at the World Championships.

He has been competing in several tournaments such as ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship, and Pride 9. Serra became a participant in the The Ultimate Fighter 4 as he won against Pete Spratt and Shone Carter making him reach the finals.

Serra faced George St. Pierre during the UFC 69 and won its Welterweight title on April 7, 2007. Then, he became the coach for the season 6 of The Ultimate Fighter, along with Matt Hughes.

He faced St. Pierre during a rematch at UFC 83, in which Serra retained his title as the undisputed welterweight champion. After several fights, he announced his retirement on May 22, 2013.

Matthew John Serra was born on June 2, 1974 in East Meadow, New York. He is married to Ann and has two children. Upon retirement, he established a Brazilian jiu-jitsu school at a local strip malls in New York.
