Matt Hughes is a retired American mixed martial artists which has an estimated net worth of $8 million.

Matt Hughes started off with wrestling while in high school. He was hailed as two-time 145 lb Class A wrestling champion by the Illinois High School Association. Upon studying at the Southwestern Illinois College, he participated in the 158 lb category and placed fifth. When the school shelved its program, he transferred to Lincoln College and continued joining in several wrestling competitions.

After graduating, Hughes placed eighth and fifth as NCAA Division I All-American in 1996 and 1997. Also, he competed in the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship in which he held 2-2 record.

In 1999, he made his mixed martial arts debut as Hughes appeared in UFC 22. He defeated Valeri Ignatov via unanimous decision. On November 2, 2001, he won the UFC World Welterweight title during the UFC 34: High Voltage.

With numerous achievements that marked under his name, Hughes announced his retirement on January 24, 2013 and named as UFC Vice President of Athlete Development and Government Relations.

Matthew Allen Hughes was born on October 13, 1973 in Hillsboro, Illinois. He is married to Audra and has three children.
