Cheick Kongo started to hone his skill in the world of martial arts at an early age. He learned Kendo and Karate at the age of five. Then, he expand his expertise as he trained in Muay Thai, kickboxing, Savate, Pencak Silat, and Greco-Roman wrestling.
His first professional fight came in when he knocked out Doog Ward in 2001. Then, it was followed by a TKO against Dave van der Veen. Before entering the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Kongo trained under the guidance of Anderson and Wandelei Silva.
Kongo entered UFC when he beated Gilbert Aldana via TKO at UFC 61. Then, he faced other great fighters such as Cain Velasquez, Paul Buentello, and Roy Nelson, among others.
When he defeated Pat Barry on June 26, 2011, the fight hailed as Knockout of the Night and Knockout of the Year. He left UFC on May 4, 2013 and moved to Bellator three months later. With his stint with the Bellator, Kongo won bouts against Eric Smith and Mark Godbeer.
