Vladimir Sobotka started playing ice hockey when he joined the HC Slavia Praha. After his stint with the team, he was drafted by the Boston Bruins during the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
He was traded by the Bruins to the St. Louis Blues in 2010. Sobotka became an unrestricted free agent when he didn't re-sign for 2013-2014 season and moved to Avangard Omsk. But he eventually returned to the Blues which retained its rights for a year that was awarded by the arbitrator.
