Sergio Momesso began his career when he played for Shawinigan Cataractes' junior hockey. In 1983, he was selected by the Montreal Canadiens during the 27th overall of NHL Entry Draft.
He debuted to the Canadiens at an early age of 18. Eventually, Momesso devoted most of his time for the Cataractes, and appeared a single game for the Canadiens. Before he ended his stint with the team, he was named as the QMJHL Player of the Year during the 1984-1985 season.
He received his first Stanley Cup ring with the Canadiens in 1986. Then, after two more seasons with the team, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues during the end of 1986-1987 season.
Momesso's stint with the Blues ended when he transferred to Vancouver Canucks in 1991. His performance during his stay makes him ineffective for the team. He was prone to penalties and struggled to make 27 points during the 1993-1994 season.
Before he retired in 2001, Momesso has also appeared to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, and Germany's Kolner Haie. Life after retirement continues when he became the assistant coach for Shawinigan and Concordia University.
