Matt Moulson's career started upon joining minor hockey team A Erindale. He has played for other teams such as AA York Toros, AAA North York Canadiens, AAA Missisauga Senators, AAA Markham Islanders, AAA Mississauga Reps, and AA Mississauga Braves' Midget team.
During 2000-2001 season, he signed for Midwestern Ontario Junior B Hockey League's Guelph Dominators Junior B. Then, Moulson was selected for Pittsburgh Penguins as the 263rd overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
In 2006, Moulson joined the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent. He was assigned to its affiliate, Manchester Monarchs for one season. After his brief stint with the team, he signed a contract with the New York Islanders in 2009.
Moulson traded to the Buffalo Sabres in 2013. After few months with the Sabres, he transferred to the Minnesota Wild on March 5, 2014. Four months later, he returned to Sabres where he signed up for a five-year contract.
