Mark Messier is a former Canadian professional ice hockey player who has an estimated net worth of $42 million.

Mark Messier played Tier II for the Alberta Junior Hockey League's St. Albert Saints. He appeared in 54 games with 74 points, and 194 penalty minutes. He had a brief stint with the Portland Winter Hawks. At the age of 17, he signed a 5-game tryout to Indianapolis Racers.

He became a free agent upon his release from the Racers and joined the Cincinnati Stingers. Messier entered the 1979 NHL Entry Draft as the third round, 48th overall pick by the Edmonton Oilers. During his tenure with the team, he received numerous awards such as Conn Smythe Trophy in 1984, Hart Memorial Trophy and Lester B. Pearson Award in 1990.

Messier traded to New York Rangers in 1991. While with the team, he received his 2nd Hart Trophy and Pearson Award. After six years with the Rangers, he signed a contract as a free agent with the Vancouver Canucks.

He returned to the Rangers after a three-year stint with the Canucks. Messier announced his retirement via ESPN radio on September 12, 2005. After retirement, he became the special assistant to the president and general manager of the Rangers in 2009.
