Justin Peters started his career when he joined the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League's Vaughn Vipers. Then, he became a member of the Toronto St. Michael's Majors and Plymouth Whalers.
In 2004 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected as the second round, 38th overall pick by the Carolina Hurricanes. Before playing for the Hurricanes, he appeared to play for the team's AHL affiliate, Albany River Rats.
In 2010, he recalled for the Hurricanes after his teammate, Cam Ward suffered injury. Peters became a free agent and moved to Washington Capitals on July 1, 2014.
