Jimmy Howard is a professional hockey player who currently plays in the National Hockey League for Detroit Red Wings as the team's goaltender.

James Russell Howard III was born on March 26, 1984 in Syracuse New York USA. Currently, Howard and his wife Rachel have a child named James Russell Howard IV (b. 2011).

Jimmy Howard was a part of the Junior Team USA, which competed in  the 2002 IIHF World U18 championships held in Slovakia. The team finished the competition with a gold medal, and Howard was named USA goaltender of the year. He then studied at University of Maine, where he played for the university's men's hockey team for three seasons. In 2003, he debuted into NHL after he was selected as a second round pick (64th overall) by the Detroit Red Wings at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
