Arnold Palmer was a world famous golf immortal and sportsman. He was a highly-successful business executive, skilled aviator, prominent advertising spokesman, talented consultant and golf course designer. His devotion to the family and down to earth nature made him one of the most accessible and popular public figures in history with a net worth of $675 million.
During the tremendous golf boom at the end of the 20th Century, his success and popularity grew to new heights. He became the winner of the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1954. The National Associated Press poll recognized him as the "Athlete of the Decade" in the 1960s. The famous golfer became the champion in 92 professional competitions here and abroad. From 1960 to 1963, he landed 29 of his titles and collected almost $400,000 which was a huge amount back then.
This period was the start of his rapidly growing business interest. Palmer was with the efforts and guidance of his business manager who was the late Mark McCormack. He had a wide-ranging organization. Arnold became the president of Arnold Palmer Enterprises. It was a multi-division structure that encompassed most of his global commercial activity. He got involved in aviation and automobile service firms for a long time and became a car dealership's principal owner in his hometown, Latrobe.
